Of all the people diagnosed with IBD in South Africa, 1 in 10 will be diagnosed while still at school. (18 years of age or younger).

Children and teens with inflammatory bowel disease face a number of challenges. The disease can affect growth and development, have an impact on schooling and sporting activities and resulting social isolation. Parents may also have difficulty speaking to their children about inflammatory bowel disease.
